U-boot: It rolls and rolls so perfectly...

U-boot is another fine example of how open source community can empower embedded platform world with a boot loader which is so generic and so easily customizable, that it rather seems odd to be free, but it is.  We have completed multiple projects for customizing U-boot  PowerPC platforms.
